The Sunday Intertitle: Placeholder

From Maurice Tourneur’s ALIAS, JIMMY VALENTINE, a 1915 feature so sophisticated that its director was able to crib from it in a 1935 Pathe-Natan film he made, JUSTIN DE MARSEILLES.

More on it soon, hopefully. Didn’t feel like writing much today, I have a bunch of marking to do (applicants to my course — my least favourite kind of work, crushing young dreams — although not all get crushed, at least not by me).

I hope you two are alright and getting better.

The announcing of some more information about “Alias” is very promissing.
I wisdh I could get the chance to see “Justin de Marseille”. I try to find a copy for some years now … – and now you tell me there is even a kind of older “version” !

  2. I’ll do a comparison of the Jimmy and Justin scenes sometime — it’s just one sequence that’s similar. The silent movie is adapted from an O. Henry short story that’s been quite popular over the years.

I’m still negative, I think, and Fiona is very nearly.
