Simple Simenon

Forgotten by Fox — featuring Lee Marvin (again) and Joseph Cotten (again), though you’ll be thankful to know the latter is respectably buttoned up to the neck this time. The connecting tissue is Belgian crime legend Georges Simenon, as A LIFE IN THE BALANCE and THE BOTTOM OF THE BOTTLE are each based on his works.

  1. So is Jose Perez, the kid from “A Life in the Balance,” the same Jose Perez who did memorable work in films like “Short Eyes” and “Miami Blues,” as well as the TV film “Steambath” and the series “On the Rocks” (the US version of “Porridge”)? IMDb doesn’t think so, but the ages check out pretty well.

  2. It’s possible. He’d have to have been a *very* small, young-looking fifteen-year-old, though. In this movie his character is described as young-looking for ten.
