A new year, a new column for me at MUBI’s The Notebook — spinning off from The Forgotten, we launch today the fortnightly Forgotten by Fox, a chronological review of the Twentieth Century Fox movies Disney doesn’t want you to see.

In a spirit of complete unfairness we begin with ALADDIN AND THE WONDERFUL LAMP (1917), made before 20th Century and Fox got incorporated, and now in the public domain and therefore not Bob Iger’s responsibility, or so conventional wisdom would have you believe. But to hell with conventional w. If Frankenstein was responsible for his monster’s rampage, William Fox’s commercial heirs can take the blame for this madness, an Arabian nights adventure starring Elmo Lincoln (pre-Tarzan) and “the Fox kiddies.”

Explain yourself, Bob Iger!
