    The whipped showgirl puts me in mind of Seijun Suzuki’s GATE OF FLESH — the latter an enjoyable combination of “post-war profiteering” drama and HOW TO MARRY A MILLIONAIRE- style, “three girls in the big city” story.

  2. And that’s a kind of proto-pinku film, in its very softcore, sometimes sadistic way, isn’t it?

    That sounds right … although I’m not well-enough-versed in “pinku” and its criteria to speak with any certainty.
