Over at The Notebook, I turn The Forgotten’s attention to SECRET LIVES by Edmond T. Greville, starring the divine Fräulein Horney (pictured).

  1. Armin Jäger Says:

Before you work yourself into a frenzy over her name, it’s pronounced Horn-Eye, not horny :-).
Also Horney who was at least for two decades (30-49, she was voted most popular actress in 49 poll ahead of Ingrid Bergman) a top German leading lady is especially famous for her signature song “So oder so ist das Leben” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eKFam6xOAV0
Playing a Mata Hari role isn’t quite what I’d associate with her, also she looks quite different from her German films especially the hair. She mostly played tough, independent, worldly women with a very direct approach to acting especially her unorthodox and realistic line readings, her voice is one of the most immediately recognizable among german actresses.
The Siodmak probably has her worst acting ever on film while Münchhausen is a pretty representative role for her, among the films in the wide oceans of the internet, Stadt Anatol has English subs and is a good vehicle for her, the first of six films she shot with Victor Tourjansky from 1936 to 1941.

  2. I like Tourjansky! I’ll seek it out. Thanks for all the info.
