Steele yourselves

Remember that problematic experience at Fangoria with the Barbara Steele essay? Daniel Riccuito has a new version of the disputed piece — really wholly new — up at Smashpipe, here. I contributed a few words here and there, along with Jennifer Matsui and Tom Sutpen, recognized in an “additional writing” credit. Oh, and the title (but not the sub-lede), borrowed from Fritz Leiber.

  1. A very nice article, but I disagree with Daniel about Fellini

  2. There’s also Mario Monicelli’s L’Amarta Bracaleone. (There used to be a clip of her whipping scene on You Tube but its been taken down)

Here’s an article about British L.A. residents that contains my interview with The Goddess.

BONUS POINTS: Barbara officiated at the wedding of Wash Westmoreland and Richard Glatzer, the great filmmaking team whose Still Alice won Julianne Moore her Oscar.

  3. Steele is one of those characters who seems to connect with the last fifty-odd years of cultural life at every point and from every angle.
