The Death of Cinema

RIP Věra Chytilová.

From a documentary about her film school, The Kids from FAMU — “Everyone told me not to make DAISIES, they said ‘Don’t do it, you’ll break your neck!’ I said, ‘But I WANT to break my neck!'”

You go girl.

Pretty depressing, the way the last of the sixties arthouse gods and goddesses are vanishing from this earth. I’m not keen on death. I think I might be against it.

  1. It’s frightening the way the Soviet invasion of ’68 smashed the great Czechoslovak film industry of the 60s. The Key to determining Dwarves, based on the diaries of Pavel Jurácek, is a fascinating and terrifying film about that period.
