It’s Later Than You Think
The Late Show — Shadowplay’s Late Films Blogathon — returns, December 1st to 7th. The subject is late and last films, whether of directors, actors or other filmmakers. The participants are YOU!
If you have a blog, simply post a related piece during the week of the Blogathon and send me the news. I’ll have created some banners you can use. Link back to Shadowplay and I’ll link to you. If you have no blog, get in touch anyway because I could always publish your piece here myself.
We aim to celebrate the final, often neglected films from major careers, but we’ll also look at the disasters and dog’s dinners, or the last gasps of obscure cult weirdies. It’s open house!
You can revisit old posts by clicking on The Late Show tag to the right of the Shadowplay main page. I don’t mind if you write about something that’s already been covered. It’s Liberty Hall!

I’m hoping I can participate again this year, though I wasn’t sure if it was invitation-only. If that’s ok, my pick is Marie Dressler in Dinner at Eight.

Lovely! Anybody can join, no need for invite! And you’d certainly be welcome.

This is such an interesting blogathon concept! If possible, I’d like to write about Rapsodia Satanica, the last film of the Italian silent director Nino Oxilia who died shortly afterward in WWI. Would that be alright?

More than alright! I don’t have enough about diva films here! I visited the church where Lydia Borelli is interred but I couldn’t find her.

Hi, dcairns!
You may or may not remember me: Last year I wrote about Jean Harlow’s last movie for the blogathon.
This year I’d like to write about Louise Brooks’ last film, Overland Stage Raiders, that also stars John Wayne.
Greetings!

Excellent! Of course I remember — but I’d obviously forgotten enough to not send you a special invite to take part again. I apologise, and of course you’re welcome! We’re huge Brooks fans here.

David, I am going with William Wyler’s “The Liberation L. B. Jones.”

Wonderful! I think that’s quite a strong, interesting movie… and exactly the right movie for an aging Hollywood director to make after Funny Girl.

I’m in! I did a post on Marie Prevost last year; still to determine what exactly I’ll be writing about this year, though. My many brilliant ideas seem to have been chosen by even more brilliant people in years prior.

I’ve been thinking that I might shove NEXT year’s blogathon into January and make it an Early Movies Blogathon, precisely for that reason.
Though I have no objection to anybody revisiting a subject tackled earlier. They should link through to the earlier post, is all.
Glad to have you on board — your Prevost post was a highlight!

Thanks, I appreciate that!
Not sure if we need to announce our intentions or not, but just in case: I’ll be doing HER TWELVE MEN, Douglas Shearer’s last feature-length film, for the ‘thon.

Thanks for the invite. It sounds like a happy challenge. and it would be a privilege to contribute to your blogathon. If no one else has claimed it, I believe I’d like to write a bit of commentary on Joseph Losey’s final film “Steaming”.

Yes please! We had an entry on that a year or two ago, published here, I think… but I don’t mind seeing it revisited.
