How to Get Ahead
Cartoonist and screen vacuum Robert Ripley, of Believe it or Not fame, with a more attractive friend. RR is humorously traduced over at The Daily Notebook today in this week’s edition of The Forgotten, brought to you by the letters W, T and F.
Thanks to B Kite for introducing me to this exciting screen personage.

As I stop laughing, I’ll just say this: Ripley could have easily fixed those teeth of his, he was paid well enough. I don’t think anyone could fix his stage presence, but Vitaphone shorts are like that. They put people on who had no business in front of a camera.

As they say, a great face for radio. But his radio career is inexplicable too, since his delivery is so impossible stilted. A man of mystery!

He was a ham who didn’t realize he had no business opening his mouth? Bobby Jones shorts are less painfully interesting, but he’s no actor, either. I think George Marshall had some fun directing those.
