Daft Days are Here
Ralph Richardson tells us all about “the daft days”, with assist from Margaret Halstan.
From THE HOLLY AND THE IVY, which I wrote about here.

ooh I like the idea of the ‘Daft Days’ days out of time… managed to lose yes LOSE a box of chocolates in the house I wander fitfully trying to find them. Lady with big eyes though too much sherry…

Correct way to consume sherry –
Soak an entire packet of choc chip cookies in the stuff.
Sandwich cookies into a log shape using whipped cream.
Coat in whipped cream.
Sprinkle with flaked chocolate.
Chill.
Forget to take it to the Xmas party so you can have it all to yourself later.

It’s known round our way as the Yule Log. Yule spend the rest of the year regretting it.

I bought this for my brother and didn’t even watch it beforehand. Hopefully he’ll bring it over soon to give it a spin.

It’s damned good, bleak stuff. Of course, there’s hope at the end, but it’s impressive how terrible it’s willing to let things get. Compared to it, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, the season’s feel-bad film, is lightweight.

of course unravelling the damage that Hugo has done to me will probably take DECADES of watching reruns of Poirot to heal my psyche
