So in the long run I decided to rely on chance to stumble across other enthusiasts, rather than to try to create converts. Which reminds me of a lovely rueful line in Danny Peary’s capsule on L’Avventura in his excellent Guide for the Film Fanatic: “I find the film fascinating, but I now know better than to recommend it to the casual movie-goer.”
