He's the Cavalier at the end, I'd say. I think the titles have some hyperbolical credit mentioning his classical theatre status and the "fact" that he's never been in a film before...

He's very good indeed -- that haunted face!

Huge arrays of Tourneur Snr available for download, am slowly grabbing them all.

I watched this film last night - and was devastated when it ended after a mere half an hour! It had me totally gripped and could easily have been spun out to feature length. Not least because the star actress (Louise Lagrange a.k.a. Madame Tourneur) struck me as hugely untalented and annoying, so I was looking forward eagerly to more and better attempts on her life.

The lead actor Yonnel (a transplanted Romanian, in fact) has the most marvellously expressive hands this side of Conrad Veidt. Indeed, THE HANDS OF ORLAC might well have been remade in his honour. I didn't recall ever seeing him before, then a search revealed that he was in the wondrous MARIANNE DE MA JEUNESSE...

Strange, but I have no memory of him at all in that film. Most likely, I was too busy ogling his cute young so-stars in their lederhosen. Who did he play? Please enlighten me!

Managed to get another Natan-produced Tourneur short, starring Fernandel, so I'm slowly getting a slight sense of his place in cinema. I'll keep on it!
