Oh, I should look at Ramrod too, featuring Mrs De Toth. It's here somewhere.

Me, too (wanna see Crime Wave). Pitfall I remember also as quite excellent of the noirs. The Sandals are uneven, judging from dubbed memory, but still more than good enough for the pelum aficionado! He made outstanding westerns, especially Day of The Outlaw and The Indian Fighter, not too far apart, but intriguingly, on extreme opposites in tone.

I'm also in doubt whether the colleague stayed till the end at Play Dirty, but by the time I ran into her I forgot to confront. I had already suppressed, I presume.

Well, did your colleague stay until the end??? Cause it would be hard to see Play Dirty as ENTIRELY that...

I have a couple of his sword and sandal type things, which don't seem too great, but maybe in widescreen they would reveal more force, Dark Waters is nice. I have The Two-Headed Spy lined up to watch sometime. REALLY want to see Crime Wave.

Ah, finally the Eyepatchers! My friend Olaf Möller and I have long been (fever) dreaming about a seeason dedicated to them eyepatch giants.

I wish more De Toth would get around here (Vienna), the last one was the very astonishing None Shall Escape; whereas on DVD so far mostly the usual suspects seem around, including the remarkable (I agree completely) Play Dirty. Actually, I have yet to encounter one De Toth I didn't like. Not sure how his stock is outside dedicated auteurist circles, was quite shocked recently, when a (serious, but not too genre-friendly) colleague's review dissed Play Dirty as ye typical olde mindless macho entertainment a propos it showing up in a retro recently.

He was a real trouper! I must have had his age wrong, if he's a hundred in your photo he must've been at least 90 in Edinburgh.

De Toth on De Toth is maybe even more entertaining that his excellent autobio (what a life!) He addresses all his more educational remarks to "Herr future film director" or "Herr film director of the future" which always made me feel he was talking to ME.

Now to prove him right.
