But is work is very subtle. <i>Flash Gordon</i> is an amazingly sophisticated film, as is <i>Croupier</i>. The latter made Clive Owen a star -- for which we're all grateful. But it's a shame <i>I'll Sleep When I'm Dead</i> barely registered with either critics or moviegoers. There is literally nothing in the history of the cinema comparable to the scene in which Malcolm McDowell rapes Jonathan Rhys-Myers. It's all about power and humiliation -- not sexual satisfaction at all. And Hodges makes this clear in a way that's uncanny. Maybe. But is work is very subtle.
